Harsh Sentence?

I just read an article on Jared Fogel, you know the scumbag Subway guy that molested all of those children.  He is appealing his 16 year sentence.  The government responded to his appeal by pointing to some of his text messages he had sent to an adult escort service saying he would “pay big” for 14 or 15 year old boys or girls.  Another text he stated “If they can and you get me 16 or below, I’ll give you 400 at least”.  Apparently he thinks a child’s life is worth about $400.  Because what he intends to do to those children (and did) is taking their life from them.  Yes, they will live through it, children are resilient.  However, their lives will never be the same again.  They are no longer a child. They will forever be tormented by his actions.

They are likely to live with PTSD, depression, anxiety, anger, self-loathing, distrust and a lifetime of feeling unsafe.  They’ll experience guilt and shame.  They will have trouble with interpersonal relationships, because of their fears to trust and fears of intimacy. Many victims end up as substance abusers in their attempt to dull the pain and memories.  And that’s just some of the emotional issues they’ll live with. Many times there are also physical issues, damage caused by the predator.

In Jared Fogel’s appeal his attorney stated “Even in the (judge’s) view, Fogle will not likely reoffend after receiving treatment for 120 months. The question is then: Why sentence him to more than five years beyond that?”.  Well I can answer that.  He should serve everyday of that time he is sentenced to (and more in my opinion) simply because those children will never be free from what he did to them!  Never!  And anyone who doesn’t understand that is as big a scumbag as he is!

So, harsh sentence?  I think not!images (1)

  1. I think not as well. I had PTSD, self loathing, anxiety, guilt, self-harm, and a host of other problems, due to my abuse by my own father. Now, 50 years later, I still have these problems, but without the self-harm. I say lock them up so they will never hurt another child again. My life was taken from me as well.
